Homchi of Spruce Trees that Lean Ever-So-Slighty Eastward

Homchi and the magic sheep

Homchi, a member of the proud gnome clan of the Spruce Trees that Lean Ever-So-Slightly Eastward, is a living legend among his people. He is most famous for convincing many of gnomish clans living near the Fethil to enter the Great War on the side of the Rebels.

The road that lead Homchi to join the Rebel Forces is a long and winding one. His childhood and youth was as uneventful as any gnome's; he was born in the grove referenced by his surname and grew up without incident. Homchi was, however, more curious than most gnomes, and took to selling small trinkets and whittled sculptures to humans living on the outer edges of the Fethil. He found humans strange and fascinating creatures, and unlike other gnomish peddlers, Homchi used the interactions to learn the Common Tongue in order to learn about their strange ways more easily.

In this way, Homchi became a vehicle of cultural transmission, alternately bringing gnomish goods and lore to Fethilians, and recipes for mush (now beloved by the gnomes of his region) and news from Elothnin back to the gnomes. Soon, Homchi became a revered leader among the gnomes, and orchestrated trade alliances with families tucked deeper in the forest. This assured those clans a new source of income from the various useless knick-knacks their younger members. Homchi also became an ambassador of sorts to the humans he sold the worthless carvings to, allowing Fethilians a link to these forest folk that they had not had since before the Queen's reign.

Homchi is also known for discovering Fethil sheep. It is said that the flock of a Fethilian man Homchi traded with broke free of its pen one night and wandered off got lost in the Erkenheld Forest. Upon hearing the news, Homchi searched for the sheep but did not find them until several months later when the sheep appeared in his own village. The other gnomes fled for cover, not being used to such creatures, but Homchi carefully herded them out of the forest and back to their owner. During the ordeal, Homchi (being a magickal creature himself) noticed their strange characteristics and mentioned them in passing as he returned them.
