Nadras of the Elms-Riddled-with-Sprites

Nadras the gnome's workshop in the Rebel camp

Nadras, a member of the respected gnomish clan Elms-Riddled-with-Sprites, is the resident bowsmith for the Rebel Forces, much to the chagrin of the Imperial Army. He is also credited with revolutionizing bowmaking, and is sometimes called the first great modern bowsmith.

Nadras' skill and artistry in the field of bowmaking have made him legend among gnomes. Bowsmithery, a peculiarly gnomish form of magic which blends both art and science, is demanding trade to learn which requires a young gnome (often having displayed a powerful nascent ability to commune with wood) to study with a master for long periods of time. Nadras was no exception: it is said by the gnomes of the Erkenheld that even as a boy, Nadras was able to perform complex acts of woodworking, such as asking the wood to shift the direction of its grain.

Nadras only half-finished his formal education. Once the gnomes began joining the Rebel Army, Nadras volunteered to aid the fight through the supply of high quality ranged weapons. He explained that he'd left without finishing his studies, but that he could surely produce a sturdy, functional bow if not a pretty one.

Time proved his fears unfounded. In fact, Nadras has blossomed into a premiere bowsmith, one with the rare talent of marrying the functional qualities of the weapon with an artistic aesthetic. A bow made by Nadras can often be identified by the intricate inlaid decorations made by gently persuading the different pieces of wood to fuse themselves together, a technique he has pioneered. Apart from the beauty it creates, this technique strengthens the bow in a structural sense by binding the different parts of the bow so closely that it literally becomes composed of a single piece of wood!

Aside from his experimentations in bowsmithery, Nadras is a fairly normal gnome. He shuns the spotlight, and has turned away many eager young gnomes hoping to be his apprentice by suggesting that he's of no use as a mentor as he never finished his own education. When not otherwise occupied, he and Narchlar go fishing with the exquisite pair of poles Nadras carved for their personal use.
